Relationship: How Do I Concentrate in My Solah (Prayer)?

Assalamualaikum. I actually don't know how to start this because this is my first time emailing someone.  I would say that I'm not very a concentrating person when it comes to pray. I do try my best to wash my thoughts away from my head and just focus on what I have to do, and that is praying but I just couldn't and always fail.  Solah is important and is the very first thing to be ask by when the judgement day. I also think that Solah is the thing that we can't carelessly do so the question is, how can I make myself more attentive throughout my prayers.  I'd appreciate if you answer this. ---------- Waalaikumussalam warahmatullah. Thank you for your email. First of all, I commend you for your concern about the quality of your Solah. Indeed, Solah is the pillar of our faith and we shouldn't take it lightly. Each one should be done like it's our last. May Allah reward you for your noble intention. Ameen. Know that you are not alone in ...

General: How Do I Become a Youtuber?

Assalamu'alaikum Bro Aiman, I'm planning to become a Youtuber, would like to seek your advice on certain technical issues. What are your equipments for video shooting, what type of software you use for editing or any other planning you do before making a video? Glad to hear from you soon and thank you!  --------- Waalaikumussalam warahmatullah. Thank you for your message. My equipments are fairly basic: a camera, a tripod, and a computer. Pick a camera that can shoot decent quality video and audio (especially audio!), preferably wide screen. Don't get too caught up in specs and price - pick whichever you can afford. Same goes with tripod. Pick one that is good enough for the job. No need for an expensive one if there's no real need for it. For your computer, make sure it is fast enough for video editing. For starter, you can use Windows Live Movie Maker. It's free and usable for simple videos and for beginners. From there, you can move up the ladder ...

Community: Does ISIS Represent Islam?

Assalamualaikum dear brother in Islam, I am a 17-year-old female Muslim.  Today at school I heard on the announcement that something happened in Ottawa and if anybody is grieving can go seek help. I did not know what the principal was talking about so after school I went to search it up. I found that a soldier was shot by a man that might be connected to ISIS.  I have heard about ISIS at the news and such, but I don't understand anything especially since I am still a teenager. But I like to understand and know things to have a better judgement and not be ignorant. But at the same time, I'm afraid I might be more confused if I go deep into the matter. When I researched about ISIS, I got different perspectives. Why do Muslims kill people and behead them? I read about this British humanitarian guy getting beheaded. These kind of actions sounds so un-Islamic to me. But at the same time, I understand (or I think so) that their goal/mission is to help those Muslims who are o...

Video Making on a Tablet

Image
When you talk about video making, the basic steps are the same no matter what tools you use. The point is not to sigh when you don’t have high-tech video making gears to make you videos. The point here is to make the best out of whatever you have in your disposal. Start with what you have. A humble beginning goes a long way. I didn’t start off with the expensive camera that I have now. When I started making videos on Youtube, I didn’t own much of what I used; I simply borrowed them. I borrow the camera and the tripod from friends. For editing, I used the cheapest software that I could find. It is so cheap that it is free. I used Windows Live Movie Maker to start off with. It is simple, basic, and it fulfills what I needed. In fact, that software is complete enough if you want just basic video editing with no sophisticated effects or anything like that. For vlogging purposes, basic video editing is enough. That is all that you need. Anything else is luxury. If you can afford lux...

My Video Making Process

Image
Many have asked about how I make my Youtube videos, most of them are vlogs. I don't have a special technique for video making, so I would like to share my point of view on making videos. My method is fairly basic and it composes of 3 simple steps. For this post, I would like to share with you how to make a vlog using the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4. Not only that, I’m even writing this blog on the tab itself, because it’s just that convenient because of its size. Step 1: Write I don't record my vlogs spontaneously. I wish I could, but I guess that I don't have that ability, yet. But for now, I write a script for every video. At the very least, I would have bullet points of all the things I want to say in that video. I would write the script while imagining in my head how I would "act it out" during the recording. I mentioned "act it out", but none of it is fake. My personality is in the script as much as it is in the video (or perhaps more in the video ...

Pen and Paper

Image
People asked me about my ideas and where do they come from. I simply told them that my ideas come from anywhere, anyone, and at any time. I find inspiration in anything that I can wrap my mind around. Our life experiences are full of inspirations and these inspirations are a goldmine of ideas. I believe we all have them. The difference between those who can harness these ideas into meaningful things and those who cannot is that those who can, usually write them down. Therefore, it is always recommended to have a pen and paper wherever you go, because you don’t know when the next idea is going to pop up. But if you have a pen and paper handy, you will be ready to capture that idea when it catches you by surprise. I am a bit traditional in that I prefer to use pen and paper over anything else. I like the sensation of writing things down. However, that doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate the newer technology that I have in my hand. I would sometimes use my phone as my “pen and pa...

Self-worth: My Beauty is a "Curse"

Assalamualaikum Mr. Aiman Azlan. I've recently followed your blog since my friend forwarded a post you made that related to my experience. If possible, I'd like to inquire your help with my current situation, and first and foremost, I am grateful for it. I am a 22-year old female. People say I have a fairly nice-looking physical appearance, but for me it is a curse. You see, because of this face, it attracts so many unwanted attentions and because of my previously failed relationships, I figured that people liked to see what this face have rather than what lies beyond just a face. And because of this face, I developed a fear of commitment and a fear of falling in love. I became insecure and prejudiced every time a man confesses his love for me. I know this is a negative mindset but I really don't know what to do anymore. Thank you for your help. ---------- Waalaikumussalam warahmatullah. Thank you for your honest confession. I think you have identified your ...
